Installation

After choosing the appropriate antivibration mountings, particular care must be given to their installation, since an appropriate setting is essential for best performance.

  1. All the suspensions must be equally loaded in order to guarantee that all the movements are equal in respect to the center of gravity.

  2. Due to the requirements of deformability itself, the machine groups containing driving and driven elements, such as engines, air compressors, fans and blowers, etc., should not be installed individually on the antivibration devices. On the contrary they should be secured on a single, rigid support which is then insulated from the floor by the antivibration mountings.

  3. The antivibration devices should work by compression as much as possible rather than traction or shear. In fact, in order to face such stress, the antivibration devices could result too big compared to the suspended load, thus more rigid than necessary. As a result, however, the insulating effect would be lessened.

  4. Isolation must be complete. All connections with supporting structures must be flexible, and sufficient play between the closest connected fixed points must be ensured.

  5. In the case of very tall machinery, thus with a very high center of gravity, we recommend the use of a cradle, to lower the barycentre and avoid possible tilting of the machine.

  6. Sometimes, in order to decrease the system's natural frequency, we recommend increasing its mass installing a floating plinth. Using this solution, the machinery (typically, presses) is rigidly secured to a block of concrete in order to lower the center of gravity and increase the mass of the system. Installation of the antivibration mountings at the same height of the center of gravity and at the two sides of the plinth, rather than below it, increases the stability of the entire unit. In addition, this allows the use of softer antivibration mountings which provide better isolation and a lower risk of excessive oscillation.
